For a homestead, having a team of Draft horses for farming, ac oouple of saddle horses for riding, a milk cow, 2 steers for the freezer, a mating pair of Berkshire hogs to give us a litter a year. Enough meat birds (turkeys and chickens) to fill our freezers for the year plus able to sell some to other families.  Over 50 laying hens for eggs and 3 honeybee hives .... Yes, I think for a homestead, we&#039;re pretty filled up.

One correction I would like to make is that in years past we did NOT confine our meat birds once they out grew the brooder.  Thise year, Paul did construct a chicken tractor  to house the birds more safely against coyote.</description>
