Native Animals…Please Stay Out of My Garden
Moose in your front yard is not unusual at all in parts of Alaska. Remember that old TV series with Moose walking down Main street? Actually, that is not far from the truth. When people go to get into their cars in their own yards they speak quietly to the Moose who continues munching on his greens and branches or ambles slowly away.
How do they coexist? The trick is to Not do what someone from the 48 states wanted to do – pet them. They are wild animals and if it pleases them to co-exist, then let them and no aggressive moves on your part.
Wolves are entirely different matter altogether. Certain areas in Alaska have 28 wolf packs alone. A person may have a cabin in the woods, but wolves will come right up to it, whether you are inside or not. Keep your rifle handy and shoot into the air if they get too close or otherwise if that is not effective.
You would think that with all these wolf packs that the wolves would be starving. Not necessarily so. Around the same said cabin were 8 caribou hunted down and killed by wolf packs. However, after the killing was done, the wolf pack left and let the caribou rot where they lay.
Brown bear eat the black bears since the black bears are smaller. Back to the cabin in the woods, just leave a radio on throughout the night. At least the bears do not want to be around humans if they are forewarned. Some times bears do get to be a nuisance, breaking into cabins, etc. There are measures that can be taken.
People do eat delicious animals.
